Before you start

  • You must log in to Dotdigital Marketing, Shopify, and Dotdigital Loyalty.

  • You must have permissions to install apps in your Shopify store.
    Learn more in Shopify documentation.

  • You need to have installed the Dotdigital CXDP app in Shopify.

Integrate Loyalty with Shopify

1. Install the Loyalty integration in Shopify

  1. In Shopify admin, go to Apps.

  2. Select Customize your store to open the Shopify App Store.

  3. Enter Dotdigital Loyalty in the search field.

  4. Choose Dotdigital Loyalty from the results.

  5. Select Add app or Install.

  6. Review the permissions, then select Install to confirm.
This installs the Loyalty integration for your Shopify store.

2. Verify the connection in Dotdigital Marketing

  1. In Marketing, Select the Account menu icon and then go to Settings > Commerce > Store.

  2. Your Shopify store appears twice:

    • Editable store - the store connection created when you installed the Dotdigital CXDP Shopify app.

    • Non-editable store - created automatically for Loyalty.

3. Open Loyalty to complete the setup

  1. In Marketing, select the App switcher icon, then select Loyalty.

  2. Loyalty checks that both connectors exist:

    • The Shopify > Dotdigital Marketing connection

    • The newly installed Loyalty integration

  3. When both are detected, Loyalty completes the setup and automatically creates:

    • Four transactional email notifications

    • Loyalty contact data fields

    • The non-editable Loyalty store record

    • Sync rules for member events

Your integration is now active.

Emails created by the integration

Once both connectors are detected, Loyalty completes the setup and creates four transactional email notifications in Loyalty > Emails:

  • Welcome email

  • Reward confirmation

  • Points earned

  • Points expiry warning

To learn more, see Emails.

You can also access and edit these in Marketing. Go to Automation > Triggered email.

Data fields created by Loyalty

The integration also creates eight custom data fields for each contact in Marketing.

To see them:

  1. In Marketing, select the Account menu icon and go to Settings > Contacts > Contact data fields.

  2. Select the Custom data fields tab then select the Loyalty folder.

These fields update in near real time and can be used for:

  • Segmentation

  • Personalisation

  • Automation flows

  • Message conditions

To learn more, see Segmentation and Automation in the Dotdigital Marketing Help Centre.

Customer data synced to Shopify

Loyalty syncs the customer’s loyalty points balance to Shopify using a customer metafield.

Loyalty points balance

The customer’s current available loyalty points balance is stored in Shopify as a customer metafield. This is referred to as the loyalty points balance.

This value:

  • Represents the customer’s current available points

  • Updates automatically when the points balance changes

Sync behavior

The metafield updates automatically after any customer action that changes the points balance, including:

  • Points earned

  • Reward redemptions

  • Manual adjustments

Updates happen automatically to keep Shopify data aligned with Loyalty.

Use

You can use this metafield in Shopify to:

  • Build customer segments based on loyalty points

  • Target high-value or highly engaged customers

  • Power custom actions, where supported

Sync schedule

  • Loyalty events sync to Marketing in near real time.

  • Member points, reward claims, redemptions, and profile data update automatically.

  • You can use synced data to target, segment, and personalize communications.
